The Golden Circle tour offers the opportunity to see some of Iceland’s most stunning sights. Thingvellir is the site of the ancient Icelandic parliament and where the American and the Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart 0,7 cm each year. Since 2004 Thingvellir has been one of 1052 sites listed as a World Heritage Site. Geysir is a geothermal area located at Haukadalur and refers to periodically spouting hot springs, the largest one being Geysir itself. Research shows that Geysir has been active for more than 10.000 years but the oldest accounts of hot springs in Haukadalur date back to 1294. Gullfoss (Goldenfalls) is our gem of a waterfall created by the river Hvítá, which tumbles and plunges into a 32 m (105 ft.) deep crevice. It is a stunning sight with the iconic waterfall falling 32 meters into a canyon and often creating a rainbow, sometimes two at once. These three sites are wonders of nature as well as sites of historical significance.
Included is a stop in Friðheimar, a greenhouse cultivation center where geothermal energy is used to grow tomatoes and other vegetables. At Friðheimar you can enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience with homemade soup made only from ingredients grown at Friðheimar. In addition to these four main sites, there are plenty of places to see on the go and we are always open to suggestions, given that we have some free time on this 6-7 hour tour. Here you have the option to add in the Secret Lagoon (one hour extra).
Food at Friðheimar is not included in the price of the tour, but we highly recommend to stop there for the most delicious soup and desert you will ever taste (in our opinion), and by the time we get there you will be hungry. You will also have the chance to see and pet Icelandic horses.
The standard price for an additional hour is 9.500 ISK for 1-4 people and 12.300 ISK for 4-8 persons. If the tour is with a certified guide, there is a 25% extra charge.
